I’m still waiting to hear whether the European Court of Human Rights [ECtHR] has accepted the case for X PASSPORTS as admissible.
My application was filed with the Court more than a year ago and it would be good to have confirmed that the case is being progressed. I did not get justice from the UK’s judicial system and it is indeed shameful that mine is the first case of its kind, challenging a discriminatory policy on the issuance of X PASSPORTS, to be taken outside a national jurisdiction after the UK Supreme Court sided with the government in a judgement that almost appeared to be dictated by the government.
The ECtHR cannot overturn the Supreme Court ruling but can find the UK guilty of a violation and in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights.
A successful ECtHR ruling should ultimately pave the way for the introduction of X PASSPORTS in the UK and a wider jurisdiction, although it must be noted that this process will take years.
A general election and a new government will provide an opportunity for me to campaign again within the parliamentary arena which I fully intend to do.
Scope to do anything about X PASSPORTS is severely restricted with the current government and I’ve diverted more of my attention towards writing opinion pieces set against a backdrop where the UK has gone from being an internationally respected country to becoming a complete basket case.
I’m finding my feet with my Substack venture ‘The View From Outside’ and I invite anyone interested in my written work to subscribe.
My latest article was published in the aftermath of disgraced former PM Boris Johnson’s resignation as an MP and can be read at BORIS JOHNSON: GONE AT LAST – ‘AT LEAST FOR NOW’.
